Important Installation Notes: Knuckle studs can be torqued up to 45 lb-ft, however this may not be possible due to the condition of your knuckles. The important factor is that pressure is created at the surface between the steering arm and the knuckle (this surface forms a very large area to distribute steering forces and prevent studs from breaking). Therefore, so long as the knuckle studs are in place, the nuts will be able to create this high pressure at this surface.
You should be able to get at least 20 lb-ft torque on each stud which is sufficient when combined with Loctite. Keep in mind you must have sufficient stud length for the nut to have threads to thread onto, meaning that the very last thread of each stud should not be less than 1.25″ away from the surface of the knuckle.
To ensure long life out of each stud, we strongly recommend checking the torque of each nut (71 lb-ft) every time you change your engine oil.
Assembly order is always:
- Nut, then
- Washer (Flat for top of knuckle or Wavy for bottom), then
- Split Cone Washer, and then
- Stud
